CRACKS APPEAR WITHING A MONTH

ARA---------------------------The condition of a new building constructed by the Zila Parishad (District Council) within the District Education Officer's complex in Ara has come under scrutiny just one month after its inauguration. Cracks have begun to appear in several places on the walls of this building, which was completed at a cost of approximately ₹6 crore. With cracks visible in nearly a dozen locations, people have started raising serious questions regarding the quality of the construction work.

Locals and staff state that such a situation arising in such a short span clearly points to negligence and substandard construction. They believe that if cracks are appearing this early, the problem could worsen significantly in the future.

According to reports, the Zila Parishad commissioned the construction of this building for use by the Panchayati Raj Department. Approximately ₹6 crore was spent on the project, and it took over a year to complete. It was handed over to the Panchayati Raj Department about a month ago—following the completion of construction—to enable the department to conduct its operations more effectively.

The primary objective behind the building's construction was to provide facilities for training three-tier Panchayat representatives. Previously, the department faced considerable difficulties in conducting training programs due to a lack of space. Training often had to be conducted in multiple shifts, placing a strain on both time and resources.

Plans were made to provide simultaneous training to public representatives—such as Mukhiyas, Sarpanchs, Ward Members, and Panchs—in this new building. It was hoped that the new facility would streamline training activities and relieve the department of recurring operational hurdles.

However, the appearance of cracks in the walls has sparked concerns regarding the building's quality. People argue that such defects in a building intended for such a crucial purpose constitute a serious issue, and they are demanding an investigation into the matter. Addressing the issue, the Deputy Development Commissioner in-charge stated that the visible cracks are actually in the wall putty, not in the structural framework itself. He assured that the matter would be rectified promptly to prevent any inconvenience.

For now, however, the incident raises questions regarding construction quality and the oversight mechanism. It is a matter of concern that defects have surfaced so soon in a building constructed at a cost of crores. It remains to be seen whether the administration will order an inquiry into the matter or if the response will be limited merely to repairs. The public is demanding an impartial investigation into the construction work to ensure that such negligence does not recur in the future.
