PATNA------------------------The preliminary examination held on March 15, 2026, for the recruitment of peons in the Bihar Civil Courts has been cancelled. This recruitment drive, covering 1,673 posts, has now been thrown into uncertainty, causing widespread disappointment among lakhs of aspirants and prolonging the wait for a new exam date.

Major news has emerged for the youth in Bihar who are preparing for government jobs. The preliminary examination conducted for the recruitment of Peon (Attendant) posts in the state's civil courts has been cancelled. This examination was held on March 15, 2026, across two shifts, with thousands of candidates participating. The first shift ran from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM, and the second shift took place from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM.

This recruitment process was a long-standing one, with its official notification having been issued back in 2022. The examination was finally conducted in 2026—approximately four years later—bringing a sense of relief to candidates after a prolonged wait. Aspirants were hopeful that the results would be declared by the end of April, to be followed by the organization of the main examination (Mains). However, with the cancellation of the preliminary exam, the entire process has once again been plunged into uncertainty.

Under this recruitment drive, a total of 1,673 posts were to be filled. The minimum educational qualification required to apply was a 10th-grade pass, which led to a large number of young people participating in the process. Regarding the age limit, a range of 18 to 37 years was prescribed for male candidates in the unreserved category. Selected candidates were slated to receive a salary ranging from ₹18,000 to ₹56,900 under Pay Level-1.

The notification regarding the cancellation of the examination was issued by the "Office of the Convener, Centralized Selection and Appointment Committee (cum) Principal District and Sessions Judge, Patna." However, the notice does not specify any clear reason for the cancellation of the examination. Consequently, a state of uncertainty persists among the candidates, who are now awaiting the announcement of a new examination date.

Meanwhile, the youth of Bihar have now set their sights on other major recruitment drives. In particular, the Bihar Staff Selection Commission's (BSSC) second Intermediate-level recruitment examination is being awaited with great anticipation. According to the Commission's recruitment calendar, this examination—covering approximately 26,000 posts—is scheduled to be held in June-July 2026, while the main examination is tentatively slated for September 2026. The results for this examination are expected to be released in October 2026, followed by the typing proficiency test in November 2026.

This recruitment drive is regarded as one of the largest in the state, having attracted applications from over 3.3 million candidates. The official notification for this drive was issued in 2023, and candidates have been awaiting the examination schedule ever since.

Furthermore, the recruitment examination for 5,151 posts of Office Attendant/Attendant (Special) is likely to be held in July-August 2026, with the main examination scheduled for October. Concurrently, under the BSSC CGL-4 recruitment drive for 1,883 posts, the preliminary examination is proposed for June-July 2026, and the main examination for October 2026. Additionally, the recruitment examination for 1,951 posts of Assistant Urdu Translator is also expected to be conducted in June 2026.

All in all, while the cancellation of the Peon recruitment examination has caused disappointment among candidates on one hand, the upcoming major recruitment drives have, on the other hand, instilled in them a renewed sense of hope. Now, all eyes are fixed on the upcoming announcements from the government and the respective commissions.
