ARA-----------------------On Monday, near the Municipal Corporation office within the Town Police Station area, an out-of-control 'Toto' (e-rickshaw) ran over three people, including two sisters. The younger sister died on the spot, while the elder sister and another person sustained injuries. Both injured individuals received treatment at Sadar Hospital. The incident caused panic in the surrounding area.
The driver fled the scene with the Toto immediately after the incident. Following the accident, the family members and locals were enraged. Demanding compensation, the angry crowd placed the body at the 'Teen Muhani' (three-way junction) near the Municipal Corporation office, blocked the road, and set tires on fire. The blockade lasted for about two hours, resulting in long queues of vehicles on all three sides of the road and bringing traffic to a complete standstill.
Upon receiving the information, the Ara Circle Officer (CO) and the Town Police Station House Officer (SHO), Devraj Rai, arrived at the scene with a police force and persuaded the crowd to clear the blockade. The CO immediately handed over a cheque for ₹20,000 as family assistance. The police had the post-mortem examination of the body conducted at Sadar Hospital.
According to reports, the deceased child was 4-year-old Mamta Kumari, daughter of Ghurfekan Dom, a resident of Municipal Corporation Ward No. 10 under the Town Police Station area. The injured include the deceased child's elder sister, Soni Kumari, and her maternal aunt, Kranti Devi (wife of Sadhu Ram, a resident of the same neighborhood).
Kranti Devi stated that she was cooking outside her home near the Municipal Corporation office. Soni Kumari and her younger sister, Mamta, were eating there at the time. Suddenly, an out-of-control Toto ran over them, injuring all three. Family members rushed Mamta Kumari to Sadar Hospital in critical condition, where doctors declared her dead upon examination. Meanwhile, her injured elder sister, Soni Kumari, and aunt, Kranti Devi, received treatment at Sadar Hospital.
