SASARAM------------------A man paid a heavy price for storing Rs 4 lakh—withdrawn from a bank—in the storage compartment of his motorcycle. On Monday, thieves managed to steal the entire amount in just two minutes from the motorcycle, which was parked outside the State Bank of India (SBI) branch on Postal Road, under the jurisdiction of the Nasriganj police station. This broad-daylight incident has caused a stir in the area. Acting on the victim's complaint, the police have registered an FIR against unknown perpetrators and initiated an investigation. According to the victim, Rang Bahadur Rai—a resident of Tarawan—he had withdrawn Rs 4 lakh from the SBI branch at approximately 10:30 AM on Monday. He placed the cash in the storage compartment of his motorcycle parked outside the bank and stepped away to a nearby machine to get his passbook updated—a task that took only two minutes. Upon his return, he found the storage compartment open and the Rs 4 lakh missing.

The victim was left in shock upon discovering the theft. He searched the vicinity thoroughly but found no trace of any suspects or the stolen money. He subsequently approached the police station and filed an FIR against the unknown thieves.

Station House Officer (SHO) Avinash Kumar stated that an FIR has been registered, and the police have launched an investigation. Footage from CCTV cameras installed around the bank and at major intersections is being examined. Efforts are underway to identify and apprehend the suspects.

This incident, which occurred in broad daylight in a busy area like Postal Road, has raised concerns regarding the safety of individuals withdrawing cash from banks. It is suspected that thieves may be operating around banks, post offices, malls, and Customer Service Points (CSPs), keeping a close watch on people withdrawing cash and striking as soon as an opportunity arises. Similar incidents have occurred previously near the SBI and Punjab National Bank (PNB) branches in Itimhan. The recurring nature of these incidents is causing growing concern among the public. Victims who have lost their hard-earned money are suffering not only from financial loss but also from significant mental distress.
