DELHI-------------------------Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) Sarsanghchalak Mohan Bhagwat emphasized on Tuesday that ‘Vande Mataram’ is a symbol of national unity, and there should be no hesitation or objection to singing it in its entirety.

Addressing the Sangh’s annual Vijayadashami event here, Bhagwat stated that ‘Vande Mataram’ had thwarted the conspiracy to partition Bengal and remains a powerful source of inspiration for national unity even today. He stated, "This is our national song, and there should be no hesitation or objection to singing it in its entirety—with full pride and a resounding voice."

Emphasizing the need for social unity, Bhagwat recalled that when Lord Curzon attempted to partition Bengal along communal lines—aiming to divide Hindus and Muslims—society vehemently opposed the move, forcing the British government to withdraw the proposal.

He remarked, "That was the era when 'Vande Mataram' emerged as a symbol of unity and patriotism. The partition was thwarted back then. Why, then, could the same outcome not be achieved in 1947? It is because those who sought to divide us instilled the idea that, since we appear different, we must inherently be different."

Bhagwat alleged that a mindset of appeasement fostered this divisive thinking, which ultimately led to the partition of the country.

He added, "Yet, the promise of peace and happiness—supposedly inherent in this divisive and destructive agenda—never materialized. Instead, we invited perpetual unrest along our borders and within the nation, characterized by mutual distrust, insecurity, and constant discord over even the most trivial matters."

The Sangh chief asserted that devotion to India as the motherland, pride in shared ancestry, and living in accordance with the universal human values of the eternal Indian culture are what keep the nation united.

He also mentioned Indian pilot Captain Smit Machhar, who, during an incident on a 'flydubai' flight from Dubai to Tel Aviv last month, saved the lives of 174 passengers and crew members.

Bhagwat stated that the RSS is working to awaken Hindu consciousness and build a well-organized, strong society. He stated that the outlook and nature of Hindu society are inclusive, and such endeavors These values will further strengthen emotional unity, goodwill, and good conduct among us all.

He stated, "These are the very traits and values—passed down through generations—that inspired Captain Smit Machhar to risk his own life and dedicate himself to saving human lives."
