ARA-----------------------------The rising water levels of the Son and Ganga rivers have begun to severely impact daily life in Bihar's Bhojpur district. The situation is particularly concerning in the *Diara* (riverine) areas of the Shahpur block. Due to the continuous rise in river water levels, residents of low-lying areas face a major challenge not only in protecting their homes but also in saving their livestock.
In view of the potential flood risks and the pressure of rising waters, many families from affected villages like Saranpur, Surempur, and Lachhu Tola have begun migrating to safer locations. Along with their cattle, these villagers have reached the higher grounds (embankments) of Teghra village under the Doghra Panchayat in Bihiya block. Currently, hundreds of villagers are living there in makeshift shelters alongside their livestock.
According to livestock owners, the biggest challenge during floods is arranging fodder and safe shelter for their animals. In the submerged low-lying areas, there is neither sufficient fodder left for the animals nor any space to keep them safe. Under such dire circumstances, taking refuge on higher ground is the only remaining option. Livestock are not only the primary source of livelihood for these villagers but also an integral part of their families; hence, people are deeply concerned about their safety.
Meanwhile, the local administration is keeping a close watch on the situation. Bihiya Circle Officer (CO) Nilesh Kumar stated that staff deployed in the area have been instructed to remain alert and continuously monitor the situation. He assured that all possible administrative assistance would be provided to those displaced or to the livestock owners who have moved to safer locations.
