BUXAR----------------------------Acting on Wednesday at the Ganga Setu checkpost, an Excise Department team seized a small DCM truck loaded with liquor. A large consignment of Chandigarh-made foreign liquor was being transported, concealed beneath sacks of cabbage. However, the driver managed to give the inspection team the slip and flee the scene.
According to the Excise Department, the DCM truck—bearing a UP registration number—was stopped during a routine morning check. Sacks of cabbage were loaded on the top and at the rear of the vehicle. Personnel asked the driver to move the vehicle past the barrier for inspection. The driver drove forward, parked a short distance away, and stepped out. Seizing the opportunity, he fled the spot. Subsequently, when the Excise Department team searched the vehicle, they discovered cartons of liquor concealed beneath sacks of cabbage. The DCM truck was brought from the Ganga Setu check-post to the Excise Department office, where the liquor consignment was unloaded. Upon counting and verification, it was confirmed that 1,332 liters of Indian-Made Foreign Liquor (IMFL) contained in 150 cartons had been seized. The estimated market value of the seized liquor is reported to be around ₹16 lakh. The Excise Department has prepared an inventory of the liquor and initiated further proceedings in the case, including identifying the vehicle owner and the absconding driver.
