Jharkhand CM Hemant Soren’s Mother Rupi Soren Passes Away, Cremation to Be Held as per Santhali Customs

Rupi Soren, the mother of Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren and wife of late Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) founder Shibu Soren, passed away late Wednesday night after a prolonged illness. She died at Hill View Hospital in Ranchi’s Bariatu area. Her mortal remains were brought to the late Shibu Soren’s Morabadi residence at around 10 p.m., following which JMM leaders, party workers and supporters began arriving to pay their respects.

According to JMM Central General Secretary Vinod Kumar Pandey, Rupi Soren’s mortal remains will remain at the Morabadi residence until 9 a.m. to allow family members, party leaders, workers and well-wishers to pay their last respects. After the final tributes, the funeral procession will begin for her native village Nemra in Ramgarh district.

The final journey will proceed through Ormanjhi and Gola before reaching Nemra. The last rites will be performed at the family’s ancestral village, where Rupi Soren will be cremated according to Santhali customs. The cremation is also planned near the spot where Shibu Soren was cremated in August 2025.

Rupi Soren had been undergoing treatment after suffering health complications. Her condition had reportedly deteriorated in recent days, and she was under medical care at a Ranchi hospital before her death. Her demise has left the Soren family, JMM supporters and people associated with the Jharkhand movement mourning her loss.
