‘How Many People Will You Arrest?’ CJP Vows Nationwide Protests on October 10 Despite Arrest Claims

New Delhi: The Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) has said that possible arrests of its leaders will not stop its planned protests on October 10, as the group continues its campaign demanding the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar over alleged irregularities in the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls.

CJP co-convener Saurav Das has alleged that the government is planning to arrest him along with party leaders Abhijeet Dipke, Ashutosh Ranka, Ratna Singh and others ahead of the October 10 protest. Das described any such action as “dictatorial” and claimed that it would not suppress the youth-led movement.

Das said the party and its supporters would continue the movement even if its leaders were detained. He appealed to people to keep raising issues related to their rights and future, asserting that the younger generation would not be deterred by possible arrests.

The CJP has called for a major mobilisation beginning October 10, with a protest planned at Delhi’s Jantar Mantar. The group has said the demonstration is linked to its demand for Gyanesh Kumar’s resignation over alleged irregularities in the SIR exercise. The Election Commission has rejected allegations concerning the electoral-roll revision.

The October 10 protest was announced after a CJP demonstration at Mumbai’s Shivaji Park on October 2. Founder Abhijeet Dipke had said that if Gyanesh Kumar did not resign, supporters from across the country would march to Delhi and hold a fresh protest at Jantar Mantar. The CJP has described the planned demonstration as peaceful.
