In Banahi village, located within the jurisdiction of the Shahpur police station in Bhojpur district, an Intermediate student was shot dead. The incident has sent shockwaves through the area. The deceased has been identified as Sumit Pandey, son of Rajiv Pandey, a resident of Banahi village under the Shahpur police station area. It is reported that his father resides in Surat, Gujarat, where he works in the private sector.

According to family members, the young man was called out of his home late at night and subsequently shot. The deceased's grandfather stated that Sumit had returned home from Surat, Gujarat—where he had been staying with his father—just the previous day, and had slept right beside him that night. However, they remained unaware of when he got up and left the house.

Meanwhile, the deceased's elder brother mentioned that Sumit was appearing for his Intermediate examinations this year, and that both brothers lived in the village with their mother. He noted that Sumit had returned home the previous evening. Subsequently, the family remained unaware of when he left the house during the night. In the morning, villagers informed them that he had been shot dead by the roadside.

In this regard, the Station House Officer (SHO) of the Shahpur police station stated that a police team reached the scene immediately upon receiving information about the incident. Prima facie, the case appears to be one of murder by shooting. The police have taken custody of the body and sent it to the Ara Sadar Hospital for a post-mortem examination. Currently, the motive behind the murder remains unknown, and the police are actively engaged in investigating the case.
