PATNA---------------------------The Energy Minister stated that the government is sympathetically considering the interest charged on outstanding dues.
Electricity consumers in Bihar are likely to receive relief. The state government is considering waiving the compound interest charged on outstanding electricity bills. Energy Minister Bijendra Yadav made this assurance in response to questions raised by MLAs during a Calling Attention Motion in the Assembly.
The Energy Minister stated that consumers who use electricity must pay the original bill. However, the government is sympathetically considering the interest charged on outstanding dues. He indicated that if consumers have concerns about the interest, a decision may be taken to waive it.
Several MLAs in the Assembly expressed concern about the rising outstanding dues and the compound interest charged on them. They stated that the rising interest is becoming a burden for economically weaker consumers. Following the minister's assurance, it is hoped that the government will soon take a concrete decision in this regard, providing relief to millions of electricity consumers.
