ARA---------------------------A major and shocking cybercrime case has emerged from Bhojpur district, Bihar, which is being seen as the biggest cyber and technical breach to date. A formal FIR has been lodged at the Ara Cyber Police Station in this matter. It is alleged that GPS provider companies, empanelled with the Bihar government's Mining Department, installed substandard GPS devices in trucks transporting minor minerals, leading not only to technical failures but also to widespread illegal extortion and money laundering.
This entire matter was revealed by Ajay Yadav, District President, Bhojpur, Co-State Vice President, Bihar Truck Owners Association, and District Incharge, AIMTC (New Delhi). In a written application submitted to the Cyber Police Station, he made serious allegations, stating that this scam is the result of a criminal nexus between GPS device provider companies, sand ghat operators, and some NIC (National Informatics Center) employees.
Ajay Yadav stated in his application that, in order to curb illegal mining and illegal transportation, the Mining Department had mandated the installation of GPS devices in all trucks used for minor mineral transportation across the state. The department had also listed some private companies for this purpose. The rule stipulated that online mineral challans would not be issued until the truck's live location at the sand ghat was displayed on the mining portal.
According to the application, the listed companies, in an attempt to maximize profits, installed substandard, low-quality GPS devices in the trucks. Due to the malfunction of these devices, the location of most trucks was not updated on the mining portal even after reaching the sand ghat, preventing the issuance of challans automatically. This technical flaw was exploited as a means of illegal extortion.
It is alleged that a nexus between GPS companies, sand ghat workers, and some NIC employees is illegally extorting between 100 and 500 rupees per trip from truck drivers in the name of issuing challans. Drivers are forced to pay, otherwise their challan will not be issued and their trucks will remain stranded.
Ajay Yadav also clarified that the GPS device is directly connected to the mining portal, and only authorized agencies, ghat operators, and NIC personnel have the ID and password for that portal. Truck owners or drivers have no right to interfere with the portal. Despite this, preparations are being made to blame truckers for the entire matter, which is completely unjustified.
The application also mentions that the Mining Department has publicly released a list of hundreds of trucks accused of illegally updating their GPS locations during loading, and is preparing to issue notices to their owners. Truckers have no direct or indirect role in this entire matter.
Ajay Yadav has demanded that the Cyber Police Station conduct an impartial investigation into the entire matter and take strict legal action against the GPS device provider companies, sand ghat operators, and the guilty NIC personnel, so that such technical corruption can be prevented in the future. Furthermore, innocent truckers should be protected from any legal or financial harassment.
Following this incident, truckers in the district are deeply angered, calling it an organized cyber-economic crime. All eyes are now on the cyber police and administration to see when and how the law will reach the culprits in this alleged multi-crore GPS scam.
