DELHI-------------------------While India frequently faces allegations of paper leaks and irregularities regarding competitive exams, China has captured global attention by successfully conducting the 'Gaokao'—one of the world's largest entrance exams—on a massive scale. This year, approximately 13 million students participated, and the entire examination concluded within just two days without any major disruptions or controversies. Everyone, from the administration to ordinary citizens, extended special cooperation to ensure a calm and conducive environment for the students.

Special arrangements were made in several Chinese cities during the exam. Operations at various factories were temporarily suspended to prevent noise near exam centers, and traffic on the roads was regulated. Strict monitoring was maintained to ensure a quiet atmosphere around the venues. Furthermore, the local administration made specific arrangements to ensure students faced no difficulties in commuting. In China, this exam is viewed not merely as an academic process but as an event of national importance.

Yu Jing, spokesperson for the Chinese Embassy in India, mentioned the Gaokao exam on the social media platform X and compared it to India's JEE and NEET exams. She stated that the Gaokao is the world's largest examination and can be seen as the equivalent of a combined version of India's JEE and NEET. According to Yu Jing, successfully organizing an exam for 13 million students in just two days is a significant achievement in itself. She also praised the arrangements made during the exam, noting that the entire nation stood united in support of the students.

The Gaokao is the most important national entrance examination for Chinese universities, organized by China's Ministry of Education. Students gain admission to the country's prestigious universities and higher education institutions based on their scores in this exam. For this reason, it is considered the most crucial milestone in the life of any Chinese student. Students spend the entire year preparing for it, and the exam results play a crucial role in shaping the trajectory of their academic and professional futures.

Discussions regarding the successful conduct of the Gaokao in China are taking place at a time when a debate is ongoing in India concerning the NEET-UG exam, specifically regarding issues like paper leaks and exam management. Senior officials from the National Testing Agency, the Department of Higher Education, and the National Medical Commission presented their views on the matter before a parliamentary committee. Citing examples from countries like the US and China, some committee members suggested that the adoption of global best practices and standards should be considered for conducting large-scale examinations.

The smooth conclusion of China's Gaokao—which involves 13 million students—without any major controversy once again demonstrates that even massive examinations can be organized systematically through robust planning, administrative coordination, and societal cooperation.
