DISGRUNTLED DEPUTY CHAIRPERSON TO LOCK DOWN NAGAR PANCHAYAT OFFICE

15-JUNE-ENG 8

RAJIV NAYAN AGRAWAL

ARA----------------------------Jhuniya Devi, the Deputy Chairperson of Shahpur Nagar Panchayat in the district, has taken a firm stand after failing to receive copies of the agreement regarding the appointment of an NGO—specifically details concerning its name, address, and terms of service. She has stated unequivocally that rules are not being followed with transparency within the Nagar Panchayat.

The primary dispute arose because the municipal office failed to provide the Deputy Chairperson with documents related to the new NGO—particularly the contract outlining service terms—despite her repeated requests. She formally sought this information via a written letter dated June 4, 2026, attaching directives from the High Court and correspondence from the Urban Development and Housing Department.

The Deputy Chairperson points out that while there is talk of the alleged NGO taking charge from June 1st, the reality on the ground is quite different. No official notification has been issued regarding this matter, nor has any clear information been shared about the NGO's operational procedures. Surprisingly, work continues just as it did before, raising natural questions about what mystery lies behind these agreements.

A lack of accountability at the administrative level is detrimental to any government system. The Deputy Chairperson has warned that if the municipal office does not provide the documents regarding the NGO's service terms in a timely manner, she will be compelled to escalate the issue to higher authorities. Before doing so, however, she intends to lock down the Nagar Panchayat office in protest against the arbitrary conduct of municipal staff.

She has made it clear that, in addition to lodging complaints with officials and the relevant department regarding this serious negligence by the Shahpur Nagar Panchayat office, she will also file a case of criminal contempt of court with the High Court.
