PATNA----------------------CM Nitish has arrived at the Cabinet Secretariat for the final cabinet meeting. The meeting is set to commence shortly. Several agenda items are expected to receive official approval.
Amidst the political upheaval in Bihar, the final meeting of the Nitish Cabinet is scheduled to take place on Tuesday. This concluding cabinet session will be presided over by CM Nitish Kumar. CM Nitish has already reached the Cabinet Secretariat for the meeting, and the arrival of the ministers has also begun. Several significant decisions are expected to be taken during this session. It is widely believed that, following this meeting, CM Nitish will meet with the Governor to tender his resignation. Political activity is expected to remain at a fever pitch throughout the day today, centering on CM Nitish's resignation and the announcement of a new Chief Minister.
In fact, this meeting—scheduled for 11:00 AM at the Chief Minister's residence—is regarded as the final formal session of the current government's tenure. Following this, the Chief Minister is expected to step down from his post. According to sources, during the meeting, the entire cabinet is expected to express its gratitude to the Chief Minister for steering the state's administration over the past two decades. Additionally, several key proposals are likely to receive their final seal of approval.
Following the formation of the NDA government in November, Nitish Kumar had taken the oath as Chief Minister for the tenth time. However, fewer than ten cabinet meetings have been held over the last four months. The most recent meeting took place on February 20, 2026, during which approval was granted for the construction of an airport in Sonepur, Saran. Leader of the Opposition Tejashwi Yadav had also raised questions regarding the absence of any cabinet meetings over the preceding two months.
Several significant decisions were taken during the tenure of the Nitish government; chief among them was the approval for the construction of an international Greenfield airport in Sonepur, Saran—spanning approximately 4,200 acres—with a target set for its completion by 2030. Another key initiative included a plan to attract investments worth ₹50 lakh crore and generate 1 crore jobs over the next five years. The 'Saat Nishchay Yojana 3.0' (Seven Resolves Scheme 3.0); allocation of 5.75 Million Acre-Feet of Son River water to Bihar and 2 Million Acre-Feet to Jharkhand; approval for the construction of 'Bihar Bhawan' in Mumbai; financial assistance of up to ₹2 lakh to empower women and make them self-reliant; doubling of scholarships for 2.7 million pre-matric students; formation of new departments for Youth, Employment & Skill Development, Higher Education, and Civil Aviation; and a 5% hike in Dearness Allowance (DA) for government employees and pensioners.
The current Cabinet comprises 26 ministers. All ministers—including Deputy Chief Ministers Samrat Choudhary and Vijay Kumar Sinha, as well as Dilip Jaiswal, Shravan Kumar, Vijay Choudhary, Leshi Singh, and Jama Khan—will be present at the meeting. All in all, today's Cabinet meeting will not only formally mark the conclusion of this government's tenure, but will also usher Bihar's politics into a new era.
