BUXAR----------------------------Following the arrest of two smugglers from an inter-state gang with brown sugar worth Rs. 2 crore by Buxar police, several important facts have come to light regarding drug trafficking in the Dumraon sub-division. The recent police action has made it clear that smugglers linked to Assam have made Dumraon sub-division their safe haven, and the illegal drug trade has been flourishing here for a long time. Interrogation has also revealed that the consignment brought from Assam was distributed to different police station areas through a local network.
Several police station areas of Dumraon sub-division have already been identified as hotspots for drug trafficking. Recently, Dumraon police arrested notorious heroin smuggler Narayan Upadhyay from Akoni village in the police station area and recovered heroin worth approximately Rs. 2.5 crore from his house. This action points to a large network that has been active in the area for a long time. Besides this, consignments of heroin and other narcotics have been recovered from time to time from the Koran Sarai, Brahmapur, and Krishna Brahma police station areas. Despite these continuous recoveries, the smuggling has not completely stopped, raising concerns that the smugglers' network is deeply entrenched within the region.
Following the arrest of two smugglers from an inter-state gang with brown sugar worth Rs. The arrest of Prema Pandit, a resident of Assam, in the Naya Bhojpur police station area and the recovery of a large quantity of brown sugar from her possession is strong evidence that inter-state traffickers are systematically turning the rural areas of Bihar into a hub for drug supply.
According to police sources, several traffickers from Assam are using the border and rural areas of the Dumraon sub-division as transit points. From here, consignments of narcotics are divided into smaller quantities and sent further through local agents. The arrest of Prema Pandit, a resident of Assam, by the Naya Bhojpur police has exposed one link in this network.
SP Shubham Arya has already indicated that a thorough investigation is being conducted into the criminal history of the arrested traffickers, and their past records are being examined in coordination with the Assam Police. Simultaneously, efforts have been intensified to reach the entire gang based on the call details and digital data from the recovered mobile phones.
The continuous police action has raised hopes that a major blow will be dealt to this drug trafficking network operating in the Dumraon sub-division in the coming days. However, the repeated recovery of narcotics from different police station areas also makes it clear that this fight is long and challenging. The biggest challenge for the police now is to reach the roots of this illegal business and dismantle the entire network so that the area can be freed from the clutches of drug trafficking.
