ARA----------------------------The National Cooperative Union of India (NCUI) is the apex organization for the cooperative movement in the country, representing various cooperative entities at the national level.

Elections for its 21-member Governing Council are held every five years. Chairpersons of cooperative societies from various sectors elect these members. Subsequently, the elected members select the NCUI President from among themselves.

Vishal Singh has been elected as a representative of the 'National Level Cooperative Societies and Federations' group.

Vishal Singh currently serves as the Chairman of the National Cooperative Consumers' Federation of India (NCCF) and the Bihar State Cooperative Marketing Union Limited (BISCOMAUN).

His election to the NCUI Governing Council is considered a significant achievement for Bihar's cooperative sector.

Vishal Singh hails from a family deeply connected to Bihar's cooperative movement. He is the grandson of the late Tapeshwar Singh, who gave a new identity to the cooperative movement in Bihar. His father was the late Ajit Singh, a former Member of Parliament, and his mother is Meena Singh.

Vishal Singh had previously made headlines by winning the election for the BISCOMAUN chairmanship. He created history by defeating Dr. Sunil Kumar Singh, an RJD MLC who had held the position for a long time. That victory was viewed as a major shift in the cooperative politics of Bihar.

The tenure of the current NCUI President, Dileep Sanghani, has concluded. Sanghani is also the current Chairman of IFFCO and has served as a minister in the Gujarat government. Now, following the election of the new Governing Council members, the election for the new NCUI President will also be held soon.
