ARA---------------------------In today's digital era, while technology has undoubtedly simplified our lives, it has simultaneously given rise to new risks. Given the alarming rate at which cybercrime cases are escalating, it would not be an exaggeration to say that a single moment of negligence on our part could reduce a lifetime's hard-earned savings to zero in a matter of minutes. In light of the rising cybercrime incidents within the district, the police administration has issued crucial guidelines to help citizens stay safe.

The primary weapon of cybercriminals is your confusion. They employ various channels to lure or intimidate you into divulging your confidential information. Remember: no authorized bank or government institution will ever ask you for your OTP, UPI PIN, or password over the phone. If anyone claiming to be a bank official requests such information from you, they are undoubtedly a fraudster. Always keep your PINs and passwords strictly confidential.

Cyber Fraud: Adopt These Five Simple Measures Recommended by the Bhojpur Police to Ensure Digital Security

First: Never share your OTP or PIN with anyone. This constitutes the first and most critical line of defense for your financial security.

Second: Avoid clicking on any unknown links received on your mobile phone. Cybercriminals frequently send "phishing links" by enticing users with offers of free gifts, massive discounts, or lottery winnings. Clicking on such links can instantly expose your personal data and banking details to these criminals.

Third: Make it mandatory to enable Two-Factor Authentication (2FA) or Two-Step Verification on all your critical accounts—such as Gmail, Facebook, WhatsApp, and Net Banking. This serves as an additional layer of security that protects you even if your password is compromised, as criminals will be unable to log in without the required OTP.

Fourth: Always remain vigilant regarding any suspicious SMS, email, or WhatsApp message. If a message appears unusual or out of the ordinary, do not trust it, and under no circumstances should you follow any instructions or procedures outlined within it. The fifth and most important point is that if, unfortunately, you fall victim to cyber fraud, do not panic. File your complaint immediately. You can call the National Cyber Crime Helpline at 1930 at any time or register your complaint on the official portal, www.cybercrime.gov.in. The sooner you report the incident, the higher the chances of recovering your money.
