ARA-------------------------Under the jurisdiction of the Patna Railway District, the Arrah Railway Police have busted a cunning gang involved in the illegal smuggling of liquor on trains and assaulting passengers. The police have arrested a total of nine criminals, including the gang's kingpin, Saroj Kumar. This gang specialized in stopping trains—specifically near the Jagjivan Halt in Arrah—by pulling the alarm chain (ACP) in order to offload consignments of illicit liquor. The arrest of this gang is being hailed as a major success for the Railway Police.
The gang's activities became particularly alarming on April 28, 2026, when, while offloading liquor at Jagjivan Halt, the criminals assaulted and injured several passengers who attempted to intervene. The smugglers also pelted the train with stones, spreading panic among the railway passengers. In connection with this incident, based on a complaint filed by an aggrieved passenger named Jai Prakash Thakur, Case No. 112/26 was registered at the Arrah Railway Police Station, invoking several serious sections of the BNS (Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita) and the Railway Act.
Given the gravity of the matter, and acting under the directives of the Superintendent of Railway Police (SRP), Anant Kumar Rai, a special team was constituted under the leadership of Railway DSP Kanchan Raj. This team comprised officers from both the RPF (Railway Protection Force) and the Railway Police. Utilizing a combination of technical surveillance and human intelligence, the team conducted continuous raids across various parts of the Bhojpur district, ultimately apprehending all nine members of the gang, including the ringleader, Saroj Prasad.
Gang Possesses Extensive Criminal History: 5 Members—Including the Kingpin—Have Been Jailed Previously
Upon their apprehension, the accused confessed to their crimes before the police, admitting that they had been involved in this illicit liquor smuggling racket for years. Police investigations further revealed that five members of the gang—including the ringleader, Saroj Kumar—had previously served jail time in connection with multiple cases registered at railway police stations in Nawada, Buxar, and Arrah. The majority of the arrested accused hail from Anaith and Godhna Road, located within the Nawada police station area of Bhojpur district.
Commending this successful operation, Rail Superintendent of Police Anant Kumar Rai made it clear that those involved in illegal trafficking on trains or those compromising passenger safety will not be spared. He stated that intensive raid operations of this nature will continue unabated across the entire railway district, under the leadership of the Deputy Superintendents of Rail Police. RPF Inspector Deepak Kumar, Rail Station House Officer Randhir Kumar, and the team from the DIU Branch, Patna, played a pivotal role in this operation.
