60.25 Percent Voter Turnout in Bihar by 5 PM Amid Sporadic Incidents

Patna (RNI) A voter turnout of 60.25 percent was recorded by 5 PM in the first phase of the Bihar Assembly elections held today for 121 seats.
Meanwhile, there were reports of an attack on Deputy Chief Minister Vijay Sinha’s convoy in Lakhisarai, a hunger strike by former DGP R.K. Mishra in Darbhanga, and sporadic clashes in a few other locations. Initial complaints of EVM malfunctions were addressed and resolved over time.
According to Election Commission sources, polling remained peaceful across all constituencies, and there were no reports of major irregularities.
Voting for the first phase began at 7 AM across 18 districts, and an average of 60.25 percent turnout was recorded till 5 PM. The district-wise voting percentages were as follows:
• Madhepura – 65.74%
• Saharsa – 62.65%
• Darbhanga – 58.38%
• Muzaffarpur – 65.23%
• Gopalganj – 64.96%
• Siwan – 57.41%
• Saran – 60.90%
• Vaishali – 59.45%
• Samastipur – 66.65%
• Begusarai – 67.32%
• Khagaria – 60.65%
• Munger – 54.90%
• Lakhisarai – 62.76%
• Sheikhpura – 52.36%
• Nalanda – 57.58%
• Patna – 55.02%
• Buxar – 55.10%
A total of 45,341 polling stations were set up across the 18 districts. Nearly 2.75 crore voters participated in this phase, deciding the fate of 1,314 candidates.
It is noteworthy that in this first phase, the maximum number of constituencies fell under Patna district (14), followed by Muzaffarpur (11), Darbhanga, Samastipur, and Saran (10 each), Vaishali and Siwan (8 each), Begusarai, Nalanda, and Bhojpur (7 each), Gopalganj (6), Saharsa, Buxar, Madhepura, and Khagaria (4 each), Munger (3), and Lakhisarai and Sheikhpura (2 each) — all under tight security arrangements.
