ARA---------------------------Opposition to the University Amendment Bill proposed by the Bihar government is steadily intensifying. Prof. Baliraj Thakur, a Senate member of Veer Kunwar Singh University, has strongly opposed the bill, terming it detrimental to higher education, university autonomy, and the democratic system. Prof. Thakur stated that for the past several days, teachers at Veer Kunwar Singh University have also been raising their voices against this bill. They argue that the proposed amendment constitutes a direct assault on university autonomy, academic freedom, and the democratic framework. The university is currently working towards implementing the Choice Based Credit System (CBCS), the four-year undergraduate course, and the National Education Policy (NEP-2020) in accordance with UGC guidelines. In this context, the bill could prove to be a move that destabilizes the higher education system. It would also have a negative impact on teachers, students, and the quality of higher education.
The Senate member emphasized that such significant decisions should be taken only after extensive consultation with all stakeholders associated with higher education.
