ARA---------------------------Sunday proved to be a tragic day in the Bihiya police station area of Bhojpur district, as two separate, harrowing accidents—both occurring while crossing railway tracks—claimed the lives of an elderly man and a young laborer. These incidents have not only devastated two families but have also sent a wave of grief throughout the local area. They serve as a painful reminder of how haste and carelessness while crossing railway tracks can prove fatal.

The first incident took place on Sunday afternoon near the Sun Temple (Surya Mandir), beyond the Bihiya railway station on the Pandit Deen Dayal Upadhyay-Danapur rail section. A 65-year-old man was struck by a non-stop train, resulting in his immediate and tragic death. The deceased has been identified as Bihari Dusadh, son of the late Chhatu Dusadh, a resident of Ward No. 1 in Englishpur village, under the Kateya Panchayat of the Bihiya police station area. According to eyewitnesses, the man was crossing the tracks from the direction of the Sun Temple toward Kateya Road when a high-speed, non-stop train—traveling from Ara toward Buxar—struck him.

The story of Bihari Dusadh’s life was one of immense struggle. Even at his advanced age, he worked as a laborer, operating a three-wheeled cart to support his entire family. He is survived by three sons and three daughters; two of his sons are married. The sudden and tragic death of the family’s patriarch has left his loved ones in a state of profound shock and grief. Instead of opting for a post-mortem examination, the family members reached a mutual agreement to take the body directly home.

A second accident in Bihiya on the same Sunday has left yet another family in deep shock. This incident also occurred on the same railway section, near the rail overbridge beyond Bihiya railway station, on Sunday morning. This time, a hardworking laborer fell victim to a speeding train. The deceased has been identified as 40-year-old Ajay Rai, son of Musafir Rai, a resident of Mai village under the Bidupur police station area in Vaishali district.

According to the information received, Ajay Rai lived in the town of Bihiya at the home of his brother Sanjay Rai’s in-laws, where he worked as a laborer. He resided near the Sun Temple (Surya Mandir) and supported his family through his hard-earned wages. On Sunday morning, while crossing the railway tracks carrying a bunch of bananas, he was struck by a high-speed, non-stop special train (Train No. 04089) traveling from Danapur to New Delhi. The impact was so severe that he died on the spot. The incident caused a stir in the surrounding area, and a sense of deep grief spread among the shopkeepers of Raja Bazar and other laborers.

Upon receiving news of the incident, Sub-Inspector (SI) Pradeep Kumar, in-charge of the Bihiya GRP (Government Railway Police) post, arrived at the scene with his team. The railway police assessed the situation and took custody of the body. The family of the deceased was informed of the tragedy; upon their arrival, the police completed the necessary formalities and sent the body to Sadar Hospital in Ara for a post-mortem examination.
