PATNA---------------------------During an event in Patna, Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge’s remarks regarding PM Modi drew a protest from a man, who was subsequently assaulted by Congress workers. Meanwhile, Kharge called for a return to ballot-paper-based elections and demanded the removal of BJP-led state governments.

The political temperature in Patna is currently running high. The occasion was the 139th birth anniversary of Dr. Sri Krishna Singh, the first Chief Minister of modern Bihar. The speech delivered by the chief guest, Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge, was marred by a major commotion. When an individual in the audience voiced his opposition, the situation escalated, leading Congress workers to assault him. Here is an account of what transpired.

At the event, held at Bapu Sabhagar, Mallikarjun Kharge was speaking from the stage about the country’s current political climate and PM Modi. Suddenly, a young man in the audience stood up, interrupted him, and remarked sarcastically, "Prime Minister Narendra Modi isn't going anywhere."

This prompted a sharp retort from Kharge, who made further comments about PM Modi that only served to intensify the already heated atmosphere. Within moments, chaos erupted at the venue. Following Kharge’s response, aggressive Congress workers nearby grabbed the man and assaulted him in full public view, causing a brief period of pandemonium at the event.

After the commotion, Kharge resumed his speech, launching a fierce attack on the central government, the BJP, and the RSS. He leveled serious allegations against BJP-led governments in several states—including Bihar—labeling them "governments formed through theft." Kharge claimed that the governments in West Bengal, Haryana, Bihar, and Maharashtra were established by "stealing votes," and therefore, all such governments formed over the last two years should be removed. In his address, the Congress president raised serious questions regarding the electoral system. He demanded that all elections in the country be conducted using ballot papers instead of EVMs. Furthermore, he called for an immediate halt to the process of the Special Summary Revision (SSR) of electoral rolls, describing the situation as a 'second struggle for freedom' and urging the public to join a nationwide movement.

Touching upon the politics of Bihar, he did not spare Chief Minister Nitish Kumar. Taking a dig at him, Kharge remarked that while Nitish Kumar was once a symbol of socialist ideology, he has now aligned himself with the BJP and the RSS. Concluding his speech, he recalled the sacrifices made by Congress leaders—Indira Gandhi and Rajiv Gandhi—for the nation, and also made reference to the political struggles of Rahul Gandhi.
