PATNA------------------------------'Chhand' is the lifeblood of poetry. It renders poetry disciplined, melodious, and enduring. It is the poets who employed meter who attained immortality, because metrical compositions are musical and, consequently, remain etched in memory forever. Our ancient literature has survived precisely because it was composed in meter and was musical; otherwise, the Vedas, Puranas, and other such texts would not have endured.

Dr. Anil Sulabh, President of the Bihar Hindi Sahitya Sammelan, made these remarks on Sunday while presiding over a 'Poetry Workshop' held on the sixth day of the 'Hindi Fortnight' and 'Pustak-Chaudas Mela' (Book Fair) at the Sammelan premises. He discussed various forms and genres of verse in detail and familiarized participants—through illustrative examples—with the creative process, the calculation of *matras* (syllabic instants), and the rules governing poetic meter.

Renowned poet Acharya Vijay Gunjan explained the composition of various meters—such as *Doha*, *Sortha*, *Rola*, *Kundaliya*, *Savaiya*, and *Kavitt*—using examples. He emphasized that the presence of *Gati* (rhythmic flow) and *Yati* (caesura/pause) is essential in poetry.

Pandit Ramraksha Mishra 'Vimal' and the Sammelan’s Literary Secretary, Bhagwati Prasad Dwivedi, also served as instructors, providing training on various meters with illustrative examples. The workshop participants included numerous litterateurs and budding poets, such as poetess Aradhana Prasad, Vibha Rani Srivastava, Dr. Shashi Bhushan Singh, Dr. Vidya Chaudhary, Er. Ashok Kumar, Dr. Pratibha Rani, Dr. Poonam Deva, Dr. Renu Mishra, Dr. Nageshwar Yadav, Siddheshwar, Indu Bhushan Sahay, Pt. Umesh Mishra, Anubha Gupta, Sudha Pandey, Krishna Ranjan Singh, Chanda Mishra, Abhiram Buddhwaha, Dr. Kundan Lohani, Dr. Pankaj Priyam, Pravir Kumar Pankaj, Raj Priya Rani, Shambhunath Pandey, Sheila Kumari, Shubhashini Kumari, Nagendra Rai, Varsha Kumari, Pankaj Kumar Jha, Pranay Kumar, Aditya Kumar, Isha Kumari, and Mukesh Kumar.
