WhatsApp, once considered the most accessible means of communication, is becoming the most lethal weapon for cybercriminals. What we once considered a means of connecting with loved ones, is now becoming a digital call. Recently introduced features like UPI payments, video calls, and community groups by WhatsApp have increased coordination, but a lack of security has left hundreds of people on the streets. Dozens of people in the district are losing both their reputation and money every day.
The question now is how the world's most secure ad-encrypted platform is being hacked. Experts believe that hackers are not targeting WhatsApp's technology, but rather human behavior.
Hackers first hack a person's WhatsApp account. Then, taking advantage of that person's trust, they send files like wedding invitations or job openings to their contacts. They also begin demanding money. The user believes the message is from a loved one, and this is where they fall into the trap.
As soon as you install the sent file, a hidden virus activates on your phone. This virus gives the hacker complete control of your WhatsApp, allowing them to access your account without even touching your phone. In many cases, accounts are also linked to other devices through screen-sharing apps or fake QR codes.
WhatsApp's highest security barrier is two-step verification. Go to WhatsApp settings and create a six-digit secret PIN. Once activated, no one will be able to access your account, even if your SIM card is stolen or cloned.
Do not download any WhatsApp file that ends in .apk. An APK file is a software program that can spy on your phone.
Regularly check your linked devices in your WhatsApp settings. If you see a computer or browser you haven't added, log out immediately.
