Grant Constitutional Status to the Media as a Official Fourth Pillar of Democracy
New Delhi ((RNI) The demand to grant constitutional recognition to the media as the official fourth pillar of democracy has gained fresh momentum. Senior journalist and President of the Accredited Journalists Association (Regd.), Vijay Shankar Chaturvedi,has written a detailed and reasoned letter to the President of India, urging immediate action in this regard.
In his letter, Mr. Chaturvedi stated that the Indian media — whether print, electronic, or digital — has always played a pivotal role in informing, educating, and empowering the public. “It holds the legislature, executive, and judiciary accountable, while promoting transparency, responsibility, and reform in society,he said.L.S.
