BHABHUA--------------------------For the past four to five days, the sanitation system within the Kudra Nagar Panchayat area has come to a complete standstill, resulting in the accumulation of massive piles of garbage across various wards of the town. Residents are facing severe hardships due to the waste and filth scattered throughout the area. The accumulation of refuse on roads, streets, and public spaces is polluting the environment and has heightened fears regarding the potential spread of diseases among the populace.
According to reports, the sanitation workers of the Nagar Panchayat have launched a strike to demand the payment of their outstanding salaries for the past two months, as well as their General Provident Fund (GPF) dues. The workers state that the prolonged non-payment of wages has plunged them into a financial crisis. Although the municipal administration was apprised of this matter on multiple occasions, the issue remained unresolved. Left with no alternative, the sanitation workers resorted to boycotting their duties, causing the entire town's sanitation infrastructure to collapse.
With cleaning operations halted across all wards of the Nagar Panchayat, garbage has been left scattered indiscriminately. Furthermore, the failure to clean drains has exacerbated problems related to waterlogging and foul odors. Expressing their indignation toward the municipal administration, local residents remarked that the town's condition is deteriorating rapidly due to the lack of timely sanitation services. The residents have urged the administration to find a swift resolution to the problem.
When questioned regarding this matter, the municipal administration failed to provide a satisfactory response. However, upon being contacted via telephone, the Executive Officer stated that the outstanding salaries of the sanitation workers would be cleared within one to two days. He further assured that as soon as the payments are processed, sanitation services would be fully restored starting the very next day.
For the time being, the town's residents remain hopeful that the administration will take prompt action to normalize the sanitation system, thereby providing relief to the people from the spreading filth and the attendant problems it has created within the town.
