ASSAM AND BIHAR GOVERNMENTS WITHDRAW CASES, RELEASE THOSE ARRESTED

PATNA-------------------------In response to nationwide protests over irregularities in the NEET-UG exam, the Assam and Bihar governments have announced that cases filed against those involved in the protests will be withdrawn and those arrested will be released soon. According to an official press release issued by the Home and Political Department of the Assam government on Sunday, as of 6 p.m. on July 26, a total of five cases had been registered in the state in connection with protests against irregularities in the NEET-UG exam. Thirteen people were arrested in these cases. According to the government order, the Assam Police will not take any adverse or punitive action against anyone involved in the protests under these registered cases. Additionally, instructions have been issued to initiate action to withdraw all registered cases as soon as possible through the legal process, regardless of the legal stage the case is in. The government has clarified that no direct or indirect action will be taken against those involved in the protests in the future and the entire matter will be considered closed. Similarly, the Bihar government issued a press release announcing relief to the protesters. The government stated that important decisions have been taken in light of irregularities in the NEET-UG exam, reforms to the examination system, and demands for accountability in the higher education sector. According to the Bihar government, no punitive, retaliatory, or adverse legal action will be taken against individuals who participated in protests anywhere in the state prior to 6 PM on July 26. The legal process to withdraw all FIRs, complaints, and show-cause notices filed up to that time will be initiated immediately. The government also announced that those arrested and detained in cases registered before 6 PM on July 26 would be released promptly. Furthermore, no direct or indirect action will be taken in the future against the individuals named in these cases. Students and various organizations across the country had staged large-scale protests regarding irregularities in the NEET-UG examination. The protesters had demanded transparency in the examination process, a fair investigation, and action against those responsible.
