BHABHUA-----------------------Major administrative action has been taken against Bhagirath Kumar, the then Station House Officer (SHO) of Chand Police Station, resulting in his immediate suspension. This action follows an investigation report regarding allegations that money was demanded from the victim's family under the pretext of "managing" the case and police station affairs following the suicide of a young woman. According to an order issued by the Superintendent of Police's office, an incident involving the suicide of a 20-year-old woman in Chauri village (under the Chand police station area) had come to light on July 15, 2026. It was alleged that a shopkeeper from Chand market was demanding money from the victim's family to influence the handling of the case and police station proceedings.

Based on this complaint, an FIR was registered (Chand Police Station Case No. 314/26, dated July 17, 2026) under Section 308(5) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). The named accused, Dhannjay Singh (alias Bhantu), was arrested and remanded to judicial custody.

Given the gravity of the matter, the Superintendent of Police ordered an inquiry into the role of the then SHO, Bhagirath Kumar, conducted by the Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) of Bhabua. The inquiry report found the SHO's conduct suspicious, citing negligence in the discharge of duties, arbitrary behavior, and questionable conduct. Based on these findings, the Superintendent of Police issued an order for Bhagirath Kumar's immediate suspension from the post of Chand SHO. The police department has clarified that negligence in duty and indiscipline will not be tolerated at any level, and strict action will continue to be taken in such cases.
