ARA------------------------The police have made a sensational revelation regarding the high-profile uncle-nephew shooting incident that took place on July 1 in the Koilwar police station area of ​​Bhojpur district. The investigation revealed that the nephew—who had sustained a gunshot wound to his leg—had conspired with a friend to shoot and kill his uncle. After the incident, he shot himself in the leg to mislead the police by framing a different narrative of the event. The police have arrested the accused nephew and his accomplice, recovering the country-made pistol used in the murder along with two live 7.65mm cartridges.

SDPO (Sadar-2) Ranjeet Kumar Singh stated in a press conference that on the evening of July 1, Deepak Kumar—a resident of Englishpur under the Babura police station area—was returning with his uncle, Suraj Rai, after testifying at the Ara Court. Both were shot near Dharmpur on the Pachaina-Dharmpur Road. Suraj Rai died on the spot, while Deepak sustained a gunshot wound to his leg. Upon receiving the information, the police rushed the injured man to the hospital and initiated an investigation.

Following the incident, the injured Deepak Kumar lodged an FIR at the Koilwar police station, accusing his cousin and others of the attack. However, the narrative shifted completely when the police examined the crime scene, analyzed technical and human evidence, call details, and CCTV footage, and scrutinized statements from family members.

The police investigation revealed that the deceased, Suraj Rai, was unmarried and had distributed his property between his two brothers. His nephew, Deepak, was resentful about this arrangement. He conspired to commit the murder with his friend, Vipin Kumar, a resident of Chakiya (under the Doriganj police station area). Under the pretext of going to court to testify, he took his uncle along and, on the return journey, shot him in the head and abdomen, killing him.

After killing his uncle, Deepak shot himself in the leg to portray himself as a victim. He then handed the murder weapon to his friend, sent him away from the scene, and alerted the police. Subsequently, a case was registered against relatives based on his statement.

Based on scientific and technical investigations, the police arrested the accused, Deepak Kumar, and his accomplice, Vipin Kumar. The country-made pistol used in the murder and two live 7.65mm cartridges were recovered from them. The police registered a separate case against both under the Arms Act and produced them in court, from where they were sent to jail in judicial custody.
