World AIDS Day Observed at Budaun Gindo Devi Women’s College with Awareness Drive

Badaun (RNI) : Gindo Devi Women’s College marked World AIDS Day on December 1 with a series of awareness activities aimed at educating young students about HIV prevention. The programme was chaired by DRDA Project Director Akhilesh Chaubey, who inaugurated the signature campaign by signing first. The Chief Medical Officer, District Tuberculosis Officer, faculty members and staff joined the campaign thereafter.

Awarenss Rally Flagged Off by Officials

Following the signature campaign, an AIDS awareness rally was taken out from the college campus. The rally was jointly flagged off by the Project Director and the Chief Medical Officer. Students raised slogans promoting HIV/AIDS prevention and encouraged the community to adopt safe practices.


Seminar & Poster Competition Held; Students Felicitated

A seminar and poster-making competition were also organised on the occasion.
• Anamika secured the first prize,
• Vaishnavi stood second, and
• Sakshi won the third prize.

All winning students were presented with shields. College Principal Dr. Sarla Chakravarti and her staff were also honoured by Dr. Vinesh Kumar for their cooperation in hosting the event.---

‘Awareness Is the Only Protection,’ Say Experts

Addressing the seminar, Project Director Chaubey emphasised that HIV/AIDS remains a life-threatening disease with no cure, and awareness is the only effective protection.
District Tuberculosis Officer and District AIDS Programme Officer Dr. Vinesh Kumar highlighted this year’s national theme:
“Barriers Will Be Overcome; Strong Strike Against HIV & AIDS.”

He outlined the four primary modes of HIV transmission — infected blood transfusion, use of contaminated syringes, transmission from infected mother to child, and unsafe sexual contact.Safe Practices Must Be Followed: Health Officials

STS Brijesh Rathore urged students to ensure injections are taken only with new syringes and that blood is always procured from certified blood banks. He encouraged students to spread awareness to at least two families in their neighbourhood.

Principal Dr. Chakravarti stressed that HIV-positive individuals must not be discriminated against, reiterating that awareness and compassion are key to prevention.Large Participation from Faculty and Students

The event was conducted by Dr. Shilpi Tomar. Faculty members including Dr. Indu Verma, Dr. Shraddha Yadav, Dr. Shubhi Bhasin, Dr. Anita Singh, Dr. Preeti Verma, Dr. Shalu Gupta, and others along with NCC/NSS coordinators, rangers officers and health teams attended the programme in large numbers.
