ARA---------------------------Congress leader Rahul Gandhi’s political style appears to be undergoing a rapid transformation. For a long time, his critics have raised questions regarding whether he possesses the courage to make major and difficult decisions within the party; however, recent political signals emerging from Tamil Nadu, Kerala, and Karnataka have begun to alter this perception. Discussions are now intensifying within the party that Rahul Gandhi is stepping into a leadership role that is more aggressive, pragmatic, and decisive than ever before.

Within the Congress, it is widely believed that retaining its foothold in South India has become Rahul Gandhi’s foremost political priority. Currently, in four out of the five southern states, the Congress is either in power or is a partner in a coalition government. Consequently, South India is now regarded as the Congress party’s strongest political bastion against the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). This is precisely why—with an eye on the 2028 Karnataka Assembly elections and the upcoming Lok Sabha elections—Rahul Gandhi is consistently striving to make political decisions that can yield long-term strategic advantages for the party.

The first indication of this shift was observed in the politics of Tamil Nadu. According to party sources, Rahul Gandhi desired that, rather than relying solely on the DMK, the Congress should also explore the possibilities of a potential political arrangement with the actor-turned-politician, Vijay. Several senior Congress leaders did not agree with this idea, believing that distancing the party from the DMK could prove to be a risky move. However, Rahul Gandhi assessed that Vijay’s entry into politics had fundamentally altered the political landscape of Tamil Nadu, and that the Congress needed to adapt itself to these new equations in a timely manner. Subsequently, the groundswell of public support garnered by Vijay served to firmly validate Rahul Gandhi’s strategy within the party.

Political analysts believe that Rahul Gandhi no longer wishes to confine himself solely to ideological politics; instead, he appears inclined toward making pragmatic alliance and organizational decisions that are tailored to specific regional realities. His active engagement regarding organizational matters in Karnataka and Kerala also points in this very direction.
