FIVE SMUGGLERS ARRESTED WITH 490 GRAMS OF BROWN SUGAR

BUXAR-----------------------Buxar Police have achieved another major success in their ongoing campaign against the drug trade. Conducting a raid in the Naya Bhojpur police station area, the police arrested five inter-district smugglers and seized approximately 490 grams of brown sugar. The estimated value of the seized contraband in the international market is around ₹1 crore. The police also confiscated a car and five mobile phones from the accused.

Dumraon Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) Polast Kumar stated at a press conference held at the Naya Bhojpur police station that information was received on July 29 regarding individuals gathering near Gopal Dera Pokhara to trade brown sugar. Acting on this information and following the Superintendent of Police's instructions, a special team was formed under his leadership. The team took swift action, raided the location, and arrested the five suspects.

The arrested individuals have been identified as Sonu Kumar (resident of Mungaon), Samir Sheikh (Nazirganj), Suryakant Pandey (Chilhari, Buxar), Manjay Kumar Paswan (Fuha, Bhojpur district), and Kumar Gaurav (Ramnagar, East Champaran).

Preliminary investigations suggest the case is linked to an inter-district drug smuggling syndicate. The police are now examining the backward and forward linkages of the smuggling network based on the seized mobile phones and other evidence. The investigation is focusing on the source of the brown sugar consignment and the intended recipients.

SDPO Polast Kumar stated that no one involved in this illicit drug trade would be spared, and the entire syndicate would be exposed.

It is noteworthy that this is the second major operation by the Naya Bhojpur police in recent times. Previously, the police had arrested Prem Pandit, a notorious smuggler from Assam, with 480 grams of brown sugar. Acting on information provided by him, another smuggler was also apprehended in the Simri police station area. These ongoing operations have caused panic among drug smugglers active in the district. The police have clarified that the special campaign against narcotics will continue unabated.
