DISCUSSION ON CHILD RIGHTS AND PROTECTION ORGANIZED

BHABHUA-------------------------A one-day awareness and sensitization program on the subject of 'Child Rights and Protection' was organized on the premises of Government Engineering College (GEC), Sheohar. The event was held under the joint aegis of GEC Sheohar and the voluntary organization 'Savera'.

While formally inaugurating the program, the college principal, Dr. Keshavendra Chaudhary, stated in his presidential address that organizing such an awareness and sensitization program on highly sensitive topics—such as child rights, child protection, and social laws—within an engineering college campus was a highly commendable and exemplary initiative by the 'Savera' voluntary organization. He stated, "It is essential not only to make aspiring engineers and the youth technically proficient but also equally important to sensitize them to social responsibilities and legal rights. The work being undertaken by the 'Savera' organization in the fields of social reform and child welfare is truly praiseworthy."

Meanwhile, addressing the students, Academic Dean Prof. Jaishankar Prasad Keshri emphasized the importance of engaging with social causes. He urged the youth, as conscious citizens and engineers, to step forward to protect the rights of vulnerable sections of society, particularly women and children.

The keynote speaker, Mohan Kumar—Secretary of the 'Savera' voluntary organization—delivered an insightful and comprehensive address. He shed light on child rights, child protection, and the various national and international legal frameworks established to safeguard children's interests. He remarked that children are the future of any society, and protecting their rights is not merely the responsibility of the government or a single institution, but a moral duty of society as a whole.

He provided detailed information regarding the Child Labour (Prohibition and Regulation) Amendment Act, 2016. He specifically appealed to the youth to leverage their technical expertise and social media platforms to raise widespread awareness about child rights in society.

Discussions were also held on women's safety and cybersecurity. Ms. Rani Kumari, Centre Administrator at the 'One Stop Centre,' provided information regarding the 'Sexual Harassment of Women at Workplace (Prevention, Prohibition and Redressal) Act' and the 'Protection of Women from Domestic Violence Act.' They also provided information about the free legal, medical, and counseling services available at the One Stop Centre.

Nisha Kumari, DSP (Cyber ​​Cell, Sheohar), raised awareness among students regarding cybersecurity in the digital age. She offered practical tips on preventing online financial fraud, ensuring social media safety, and dealing with cyberbullying and digital security, while also urging students to promptly report any incidents of cybercrime.

Representatives shared information about the child protection system and various welfare and rehabilitation schemes run by the Government of Bihar for children in need of care and protection.

Special thanks and appreciation were extended to Student Activity Council (SAC) In-charge Raju Kumar Sharma, Program Coordinator Sumit Sardesai, and all the dedicated SAC volunteers; it was through their efficient management and tireless efforts that the event was successfully concluded.
