Telangana politics has taken another crucial turn. The formation of the “Telangana Rashtra Sena (TRS)” party by Kalvakuntla Kavitha is not merely the launch of a new political outfit; it signals deep shifts in family political dynamics, the revival of regional ideology, and evolving equations between the ruling and opposition forces. This development cannot be viewed superficially; it reflects the surfacing of an internal crisis within Telangana’s political system.

The differences within the Bharat Rashtra Samithi are not just personal disagreements. A growing perception that the ideological strength built during the movement phase has gradually weakened in the phase of governance, dissatisfaction over centralized leadership, and emerging differences over the future political direction—these three factors together appear to have led to this split. Kavitha’s suspension and subsequent exit from the party should be seen not only as an act of political protest but also as an attempt to carve out an independent identity.

Reclaiming the name “TRS” is a politically significant decision. This name, which once stood as a symbol of the Telangana statehood movement, is now being revived as an emotional force. In a way, it represents a direct contest over political legacy. There is a clear attempt to reconnect with the emotional bond people have with the movement. This is not just a party revival; it is an effort to reclaim a political brand.

Kavitha’s political strategy appears to operate on three fronts: governance-related criticism of the ruling Congress, allegations of corruption and family dominance against the Bharat Rashtra Samithi, and attacks on the Bharatiya Janata Party over issues of regional self-respect. By simultaneously engaging on these three fronts, she seems to be positioning herself at the political center. This reflects a multi-front political strategy.

The impact of this party may not be limited to mere vote division. If there is mobilization among women voters, youth who were active during the movement phase, and rural groups that still resonate with the old TRS ideology, it could reshape Telangana’s social and political alignments. Vote bank politics may take on a new form.

For Congress, this presents a dual situation. In the short term, division of opposition votes may appear beneficial, but in the long term, if Kavitha’s party gains strength, it could emerge as a challenge. From the perspective of the Bharatiya Janata Party, this may seem like a minor development, but if regional sentiment strengthens again, it could hinder the expansion of national politics.

However, the challenges before Kavitha are significant. Building a party structure down to the grassroots level, gaining public credibility, mobilizing financial resources, and developing second-tier leadership—these factors will be crucial for success. Ideology alone is not enough; it must translate into votes through an organized political framework.

This development should be viewed not in terms of immediate success or failure but through the lens of long-term change. It may trigger debates on internal democracy within regional parties, reshape public perception of dynastic politics, and lead to a reassessment of Telangana movement ideologies.

Is this a genuine political alternative, or just another chapter in family politics? The answer will not emerge immediately. The future of this party will depend on three factors: public verdict, the test of time, and the stability of leadership.

Vangara (RNI) The century-old Veerabhadra Rath Yatra, a revered spiritual and cultural tradition of Vangara village, was celebrated on Wednesday with great devotion, colour, and community participation. The grand procession was led by P.V. Prabhakar Rao, third son of former Prime Minister Bharat Ratna.Sri.P.V. Narasimha Rao along with P.V.Sharath babu, P.V.Madan Mohan Jithender Rao Thanugula President, TYJF continuing a legacy deeply rooted in faith and family history.

The Rath Yatra, which proceeds from Vangara to the historic Kothakonda Veerabhadra Swamy Temple, is believed to have begun nearly a hundred years ago. Local tradition traces its origin to around 1925, when Rathnamma, widow of late P.V. Ranga Rao, fervently prayed to Lord Veerabhadra Swamy for a male heir to carry forward the Pamulaparthy family lineage, as she was childless and had lost her husband at a young age.

It is widely believed that her prayers were answered when her neighbours, P.V. Seetharama Rao and Rukminamma, agreed to give their eldest son, P.V. Narasimha Rao, in adoption. The adoption was formally solemnised around 1930, following which Narasimha Rao legally became the son of P.V. Ranga Rao and Rathnamma. In a further strengthening of family bonds, Rathnamma later arranged the marriage of Narasimha Rao with Satyamma, one of her close relatives.

Overwhelmed with gratitude, Rathnamma is believed to have instituted the tradition of sending the ceremonial Rath to Kothakonda as a mark of thanksgiving to Lord Veerabhadra Swamy. Since then, the Rath Yatra has remained an enduring symbol of devotion, fulfilment of faith, and continuity of tradition.

This year’s procession was marked by vibrant cultural performances, including spirited Shiva Shakti dances by members of the Yadava community, rhythmic Dappu and Dolak beats, and a visually stunning Kolatam performed by women of the village. The atmosphere resonated with the chiming of temple bells, devotional chants, and ritual offerings of jaggery and rice.

With a gathering of over 2,000 devotees, the Rath Yatra commenced amid festive fervour, transforming the village into a sea of devotion and celebration, coinciding with the Sankranti festivities.

After Rathnamma’s passing, the responsibility of conducting the Rath Yatra was taken up by P.V. Narasimha Rao, who unfailingly observed the ritual despite his demanding roles as Union Minister and later as Prime Minister. Subsequently, the tradition was carried forward briefly by P.V. Rajeshwar Rao and his family. For the past six to seven years, the sacred responsibility has been diligently upheld by P.V. Prabhakar Rao.

The Yatra saw the participation of several members of the P.V. family, including P.V. Sharath Babu and P.V. Madan Mohan, with guidance and coordination provided by P.V. Manohar Rao from Hyderabad.

The event was smoothly and enthusiastically organised by Mondaiah, Venkat Reddy, Satish Reddy, Laxmikanth Rao, and Vishnu Vardhan, with active support from the P.V. Global Foundation, which has been sponsoring the Rath Yatra for several years.

Marked by unity, devotion, and cultural splendour, the Veerabhadra Rath Yatra once again stood as a powerful testament to Vangara’s living heritage—drawing men, women, and children alike into a shared celebration of faith, history, and tradition.

Telangana (RNI) Dr. Jithender Rao Thanugula, President, Telangana Youth Journalist Federation, Senior Journalist & Senior Correspondent, The South Indian Times Journalist accreditation is not merely an identity card; it is an official recognition of the vital role journalists play in a democratic society. In Telangana, however, the present accreditation system has become a matter of deep concern for working journalists across the state. Delays, lack of transparency, and the absence of a clear policy framework are creating serious professional and ethical challenges.

Thousands of journalists—especially those working in rural areas, district bureaus, digital platforms, and small publications—are struggling due to the prolonged non-issuance and renewal of accreditation cards. Many genuine journalists who meet professional standards are being excluded, while the process itself remains unclear and inconsistent.

Key Problems in the Present Accreditation System

Undue Delays:

Accreditation renewal and fresh applications have been pending for long periods without official timelines, causing hardship to journalists who depend on accreditation for access and professional recognition.

Lack of Transparency:

There is no publicly available, well-defined guideline explaining eligibility, verification procedures, or reasons for rejection. This creates confusion and mistrust among journalists.

Discrimination Against Grassroots Journalists:

District, mandal, and rural journalists—who form the backbone of grassroots reporting—are often neglected, despite their crucial role in bringing local issues to the government’s attention.

Changing Media Landscape Ignored:

Digital and web journalists, who are now an integral part of modern journalism, are not being adequately recognized under the existing accreditation norms.

Impact on Press Freedom:

When journalists are denied accreditation arbitrarily, it indirectly affects press freedom and discourages independent reporting.

Why This Issue Matters

Journalists act as a bridge between the government and the people. Weakening journalists through administrative hurdles ultimately weakens democracy itself. Accreditation should be a fair, inclusive, and transparent process—not a tool of exclusion.

The Telangana Youth Journalist Federation firmly believes that accreditation must be based on professional work, ethical journalism, and verifiable credentials, not favoritism or unclear criteria.

Our Appeal to the Government

On behalf of journalists across Telangana, we urge the state government to:

Immediately announce a clear and transparent accreditation policy

Set fixed timelines for application processing

Include journalist representatives in accreditation committees

Recognise digital, freelance, and rural journalists

Ensure accreditation is non-discriminatory and apolitical

Conclusion

Journalists do not seek privilege; they seek recognition of their responsibility. Resolving the accreditation issue is not just an administrative necessity—it is a democratic obligation.

The Telangana government must act swiftly and sensitively to restore confidence among journalists and strengthen the fourth pillar. The south India Times senior correspondent.of democracy.

Hyderabad (RNI) Marriage is not merely a personal or emotional bond; it is a legally recognized social institution governed by law and bound by responsibility. In India, the issue of early marriage continues to pose serious social challenges, despite existing legal safeguards. A growing number of marital disputes, family conflicts, and broken relationships among young couples highlight the urgent need to revisit the legal framework governing the age of marriage for both men and women.

At present, the Prohibition of Child Marriage Act, 2006 (PCMA) defines a “child” under Section 2(a) as a male who has not completed 21 years of age and under Section 2(b) as a female who has not completed 18 years of age. While this law was enacted to prevent child marriages, the differing age limits have created social and legal inconsistencies. Although marriages below the prescribed age are discouraged, they are not automatically void; under Section 3, such marriages are voidable at the option of the minor, which often results in prolonged legal and emotional complications.

In practice, many young individuals—especially those between 18 and 21 years—enter marriage without sufficient emotional, psychological, or financial maturity. Influenced by impulsive decisions and limited life experience, several love marriages take place without adequate preparedness or family consensus. This immaturity often leads to misunderstandings, domestic conflicts, and social pressure, causing distress not only to the couple but also to their families.

The law also recognizes accountability. Section 9 of the PCMA prescribes punishment for an adult male who contracts a child marriage. Section 10 penalizes those who solemnize such marriages, while Section 11 holds parents, guardians, or any person promoting or permitting child marriage legally responsible. Despite these provisions, enforcement remains weak, and social realities continue to undermine the spirit of the law.

Recognizing these concerns, the Union Government proposed the Prohibition of Child Marriage (Amendment) Bill, 2021, seeking to raise the minimum age of marriage for women from 18 to 21 years, bringing parity with men. This proposed reform reflects the understanding that true maturity—emotional stability, informed decision-making, and financial independence—generally develops after the age of 21, irrespective of gender.

A uniform marriage age of 21 years for both men and women would strengthen gender equality, reduce premature marriages, and promote responsible adulthood. It would allow young citizens to complete education, gain professional exposure, and better understand the responsibilities that marriage entails. Importantly, such a reform would not restrict personal freedom but rather safeguard the long-term well-being of individuals and families.

Marriage must be a conscious, mature, and well-informed choice—not an impulsive emotional decision. Strengthening the legal age of marriage through clear legislation and effective enforcement is essential for building stable families and a healthier society. Lawmakers, civil society, and the media must work collectively to ensure that the intent of the law translates into social progress and lasting harmony.

Hyderabad (RNI) The Telangana High Court Advocates Association, under the leadership of its Executive Body President Sri A. Jagan, convened a General Body Meeting during which a unanimous resolution was passed to boycott the bench presided over by Justice Moushumi Bhattacharya, starting from Monday.

The Association further resolved to submit a representation to the Acting Chief Justice of Telangana High Court, requesting that no judicial work be allotted to the judge. Additionally, a representation will be submitted to the Chief Justice of India seeking the transfer of the judge to another High Court.

Prasad, Nandigam Krishna Rao, Bar Council Member M.A.K. Mukheed, and many other experienced lawyers, along with junior advocates, voiced their concerns in unison.

Jagan stated that the Executive Body has received numerous complaints from practicing advocates, citing instances of humiliation, a lack of respectful engagement, and an overall hostile atmosphere in the courtroom.

During the meeting, it was expressed that such treatment has created a lack of harmony between the Bar and the Bench, which could seriously impact the dignity and functioning of the institution.

Specific grievances raised include:

The imposition of unreasonably heavy costs on parties, reportedly up to Rs 3 lakhs,

Entries in dockets noting unpreparedness of a majority of advocates a practice not observed before any other judge
A disproportionate emphasis on command over the English language, disregarding the diverse socio-educational backgrounds of practicing advocates

During the meeting one advocate, one advocate, P. Prabhakar Reddy, who has been in practice for over 40 years, shared an unpleasant experience where he was replaced during proceedings by an advocate from the Legal Services Authority, allegedly at the judge’s behest.

In light of these grievances, the Association unanimously resolved to boycott the court of Justice Moushumi Bhattacharya and pursue her transfer from the Telangana High Court.

Hyderabad (RNI) A criminal case has been registered against a supermarket in Telangana’s Hyderabad after a consumer complained about being sold spoiled milk.

The incident occurred on June 22, when a resident of Marina Skies, Kukatpally, purchased two packets of Heritage Toned Milk from the Ratnadeep Supermarket outlet in his residential complex.

While one packet was fine, the other, opened the next day by his wife, was spoiled, emitting a foul smell even after boiling.

Calling it a serious lapse in quality control, the consumer lodged a complaint with Kukatpally Police, submitting the spoiled packet and packaging as evidence. “This is a clear case of negligence. What if a child or elderly person consumed it? This could have led to a medical emergency,” said the complainant.

Based on the complaint, Kukatpally police registered a case under Section 125 of Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) for endangering life or personal safety of others, which carries a punishment of up to three months’ jail or Rs 500 fine. Additionally, Sections 274 and 275, relating to adulteration and sale of noxious food or drink, were also invoked, both carrying a punishment of up to six months’ jail or Rs 5,000 fine, or both.

Police have initiated an inquiry into the supply chain, storage conditions, and the role of the supermarket staff. Officials said the case is being taken seriously, considering the potential health risks such negligence could cause.

Hyderabad (RNI) Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy said the managements of educational institutions would be held directly responsible for anti-social activities, including drug abuse, in the vicinity of their campuses.

He said school and college managements have to closely monitor student behaviour and ensure drug-free campuses.

“The presence of drugs in any institution is a sign of failure by its management. Vigilance by all stakeholders is the only way to curb this menace,” Revanth Reddy said. If needed, cases will be filed against managements that are ignorant of drug abuse near their campuses.

Speaking on the International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking event at Shilpakala Vedika on Thursday, Revanth Reddy said while parents should keep vigil on their children, schools and colleges have a bigger responsibility. He reminded that both parents are forced to work to fund the education of their children.

“You are collecting a huge amount as fee. Children also spend more time in and around these institutions. Hence, you cannot wash off your responsibility by claiming that you are only responsible for their education,” he told educational institutions.

Highlighting government initiatives, Revanth Reddy announced that TGANB (Telangana Anti Narcotics Bureau) would now be known as EAGLE (Elite Action Group for Drug Law Enforcement), a specialised unit to detect and destroy ganja cultivation as well as drug trafficking.
